Jim McBride Of ‘Mr. Skin’ Talks Gratuitous Celebrity Nudity In Movies And Which Actress Would Crash His Site

Sometimes, Reddit AMAs fit Crushable so perfectly that we have to think the mods set them up just for us. That was the case with today’s thread where Jim McBride, creator of the Mr. Skin website that tracks female actresses’ nude scenes in movies and TV, chatted with Redditors about the evolution of his site as well as the importance of celebrity nudity.
What’s impressive about the AMA is that McBride really is an authority on the subject. While I wouldn’t go so far as to rate his knowledge as at the academic level, it’s clear that he has considered the place of nudity in entertainment beyond just a passing amusement for male audiences. And yet, he also threw in plenty of “skin” puns throughout the conversation. You have to love a guy who doesn’t take himself too seriously.
Perhaps my favorite answer was when he addressed the concept of gratuitous versus non-gratuitous nudity, i.e., a nude scene that is integral to a movie’s story. McBride’s answer was this:

A good example is Sharon Stone‘s leg cross in Basic Instinct. It gratuitously advanced the plot. It’s inherent to the recklessness and fearlessness of Sharon Stone’s character. Had we not seen The Goods, we would not have been shocked into realizing that she was capable of doing anything to get what she wants.

By contrast, he has several favorite movies that feature no nudity whatsoever: Goodfellas, North By Northwest, All the President’s Men, and The Shawshank Redemption were the ones he listed.
The big question was which female celebrity could really shake things up at Mr. Skin HQ if she were to decide on doing a nude scene. While many Redditors thought Emma Watson would be that ungettable get — remember that 4chan is obsessed with her — McBride revealed that the true game changer would be Mila Kunis.
What’s especially interesting is the notion of how much celebrities play into Mr. Skin now that it’s an institution. One Redditor asked what McBride and co. have to pay for a license, but he answered, “About 75 studios and PR firms send us screeners of DVD’s and blurays regularly.” And here’s a photo to give you an idea of just a fraction of his collection:

One Redditor had to know, has this job ever gotten McBride any, ahem, “celebrity benefits”?

I met my wife doing this (at a radio party) so I guess I’ve had some benefits…but no, I’ve never banged a celeb!

Most telling, perhaps, is that Mr. Skin has never received a cease-and-desist from celebrities, because they play by the rules and aren’t intrusive like the paparazzi. It’s refreshing, really:

Elizabeth Halseth Is Hot Republican Tail

Former Republican Nevada state senator Elizabeth Halseth is posing in a bikini in Maxim in an attempt to score a spot on the magazine’s list of the 100 hottest women in the world.
The divorced mother-of-three still boasts a solid bikini body and she’s number one on our list of Republicans we’d love to do. Wouldn’t vote for her though.
Halseth was elected in 2010 at the age of 27, making her the youngest woman elected to the Nevada Senate. Her resignation in February, after less than a year in office, came in the midst of a public divorce and child custody battle and her announcement that she needed to leave the state to find a job.
In October of last year, police arrested her husband, Daniel Halseth, on “open and gross lewdness” charges at their Las Vegas home. Halseth has accused her husband of trying to force her to have sex and of taking her purse and car keys from her.
Good luck on her Maxim thing.

LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - A former Nevada state Senator who ran on a Christian family values platform has posed in a bikini as a write-in candidate for the men's magazine Maxim's "Hot 100" contest.

The magazine will announce results of the annual contest next week, but a photo of Elizabeth Halseth posed in a black bikini against a desert mountain backdrop has featured on the magazine's website as one of the most popular 'Hot 100' write-ins of the year.

"The former state senator of Nevada clearly knows a thing or two about campaigning: The votes for Halseth keep on coming," a caption under her write-in candidacy photo reads. "And with a couple years in office under her belt, she just might be ready to represent on the Hot 100."

News of the arc of Halseth's career, from staunch advocate of family to potential pin-up model, has stirred reactions ranging from "only in Las Vegas" to regret over damage to the Republican cause.

Gene Newman, digital editorial director at Maxim, said Halseth submitted photos to the magazine in March, and agreed to be included in the contest. Halseth could not be reached to comment.

Halseth ran as a political unknown in 2010, surprising observers by winning as a Republican in a majority-Democrat district. Her campaign included a mailer with a photo of her opponent, Benny Yerushalmi and his wife, who wore a revealing evening dress. A caption beside the photo read, "Not Our Values."

Then 27, Halseth became the youngest woman ever elected to Nevada's senate. Her star continued to rise as a political group named Citizens Outreach named her "Conservative of the Year."

But then the freshman senator stopped appearing at committee meetings and answering phone calls. Soon details of a rocky marriage that would lead to divorce became public.

Halseth, a mother of three, resigned from the Senate in February, saying in a letter to Governor Brian Sandoval that she needed to "focus my efforts completely as a mother and job seeker."

She also said she may need to leave the state, as the economy coupled with negative publicity surrounding her divorce made it hard to find a job. She then dropped out of the public arena.

Now Halseth has resurfaced.

"Most politicians don't get in touch with us, and most aren't as beautiful as she is," Newman said.

The woman who assailed Nevadans with her traditional values on marriage, family and faith:
1. Stopped showing up at legislative hearings;
2. People started publicly questioning where she was;
3. We discovered she was living out of state with her boyfriend;
4. She was forced to resign after being found out;
5. She did all this while still being married to her loving husband;
6. The same husband she accused of trying to grope her after he confronted her about her affair (because isn't having sex with the person you just found out has been cheating on you what anyone would want to do?)
8. Poses in bikini in Maxim. (because isn't that what every female conservative elected Republican who believes in marriage, family and God does to reinvent herself after blowing up her life?)

Well, she got the part about GOP traditional values right - hypocrisy at its finest. 

State senator's husband arrested

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) - The husband of state senator Elizabeth Halseth has been arrested after a welfare check of the couple's home.
Metro police say Halseth's mother made the request.
32-year-old Daniel Halseth was arrested for open and gross lewdness for an incident that occurred on Oct. 16.
According to the police report, the couple has been having marital problems.
Elizabeth Halseth, a Republican, is known as a strong conservative. She is the mother of three.

The Daniel Halseth Story

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Daniel Halseth’s dining room looks like a war room at the Pentagon – computer screens and gadgets everywhere. The computer whiz kid is fast at work, trying to finalize the next project that will feed his three kids, who he refers to as his “three little miracles”.
He has work in Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego and Rocklin, California outside of Sacramento. On the surface, it looks like everything is fine with Halseth. But, as we all know, looks can be deceiving.
Just four months ago, Halseth was on top of the world. His wife Elizabeth was the youngest state senator in the State of Nevada, his computer business was thriving, and the two seemed like the All-American couple. Then, in a blink of an eye, it all came crashing down – on both of them.
Daniel Halseth and Elizabeth Schworak met in Oregon, developed a history together, and later got married. He graduated from Hood River Valley H.S. in 1995; she graduated from North Salem in 2001. Daniel was raised on a farm, and for a long time, while there was a negative prescense of alcohol, there was also a lot of love to go around for everyone. He spent most of his young adult life without his father, who died in 1994. His Dad, who passed away right before Daniel graduated from high school, died suddenly from a brain aneurism.
Halseth excelled in anything related to computers or technology, and was active in both music and church activities. Elizabeth grew up in a verbally abusive family, but did well as both a model and as a member of JROTC. The two of them seemed like they had overcome some difficulties to do well for themselves. When they got married, the two go-getters seemed like a couple who was destined for greatness. They sought to change the game and alter the paths that were set before them.

Later, after having three children, Daniel found work in Las Vegas, so the young family moved to Nevada. Soon thereafter, Elizabeth Halseth, behind the strength of her husband’s computer prowess, surprised all of Nevada when she was elected to the State senate. In 2010, Elizabeth upset then incumbent Sen. Dennis Nolan in Senate District 9. Running a campaign that was heavy on family and morality, Elizabeth Halseth, with her good looks and conservative tone, was tagged by the Republican Party as a future superstar. And, while she lacked experience, she seemed to have the principals to be successful.
Through it all, sources confirm Daniel Halseth kept the fort down. While Elizabeth was in Carson City being a senator, Daniel was at home with their three kids, playing Mister Mom. He was the primary bread winner in a nuclear family that was about as modern as modern families get. In between being a father and working his tail off, Daniel spent countless hours orchestrating his wife’s political strategy, which included website design, auto-dials, graphic design, and major foot patrol – which is a fancy way of saying door-to-door politics. To that end, he was good – really good. And so it was that his senator wife benefited from his brilliance.

But, as is true with any rising star, the fall can be bright, high profile, and sensational. Such was the case for the Halseth family in October 2011.

On October 21, Daniel Halseth was arrested for an alleged domestic dispute involving his wife. Eight hours after his arrest, he was charged with “open and gross lewdness”. In the police report, Daniel accused his wife of having an affair, while she acknowledged that they were having “marital problems”. The police arrested Daniel because Elizabeth accused him of touching her inappropriately during an argument about the affair. Daniel denies that allegation. Either way, their perfect little world was about to come crumbling down.

In a December report authored by Chuck Muth, a political blogger, he states, according to the Las Vegas Criminal Defense blog that open and gross lewdness is “one of the more frequently falsely-accused offenses because police don’t need physical proof to make an arrest, and people may play the victim card out of revenge.” In the same report, Muth accuses Sen. Halseth of making similar claims against other male victims over the past 10 years.

So, you see, it turns out Daniel Halseth was right. His wife was having an affair with former golf professional, now real estate salesman, Tiger Helgelien. To make matters worse, Helgelien, who grew up in Alaska, was involved with Elizabeth’s election campaign, and Daniel built Helgelien’s website. In addition, rumors have it that Daniel was helping Helgelien raise funds for his own political campaign. Needless to say, Daniel has been devastated.

In November, 2011, Daniel Halseth filed for divorce. And, while those proceedings are on-going, there is no question the relationship between the “superstar” couple is now over.

During the time Sen. Halseth was cheating on her husband, he was fast at work caring for their three children, and organizing her political career, which included networking with the top politicians in the country. The two were seen together at top political functions and Daniel was well received by some of the top republicans in the U.S. Now, after the allegations went public, they have both been pretty much dropped like a hot potato.

“Her career is over,” stated one political insider who asked to remain anonymous because of the sensitive nature of the case. “She was a rising star who selfishly destroyed a very promising family and career.” It is not clear if Sen. Halseth will resign her position or not, but there is no question she is unelectable in the future.

In the meantime, Daniel Halseth tries to repair his life. He still is dealing with the after-effects of the malicious criminal charges, and the two of them are haggling over child custody issues. Regardless, Daniel’s life, and the lives of his three children, will never be the same.

“I didn’t want to get divorced,” said Halseth. “But, her actions forced the issue.”

Now, the two are left to ponder what “might have been”. Tragically, Daniel Halseth now gets to spend only half as much time with his kids as was previously the case. Clearly, the hardest part of this mess for Daniel is being away from his children.

“I love my children,” said Halseth. “That is the worse part about all of this. When families go through something like this, it is always the children who suffer the most. I pray that there is a way to forgive all of this, and that, somehow, the wrongs that have been done here are made right.”

From Portsmouth to Playboy for Marilyn

Marilyn Cole went from being a humble hotel worker in Portsmouth to Playmate of the Year in Playboy magazine. Here she tells the fascinating story of how she became a famous Bunny Girl.
Why is 2012 the appropriate year to tell my story? Well, not only is it the bicentenary of one of our greatest authors, Portsmouth-born Charles Dickens, but it’s also the year that marks the 40th anniversary of my appearance as Miss January 1972 in Playboy magazine.
This was the first full-frontal nude in Playboy and made me the first and, to date, the only Brit to be honoured as Playmate of the Year.
The day I became the first full-frontal Playboy centrefold, my life changed in the most peculiar ways. Some nice man with a driving school offered me a free course of lessons in advanced driving. I was constantly invited to visit the flight deck on transatlantic flights and then there was the chap in Hawaii who sent me a couple of dozen shining red lilies every week for the following year.
That issue of Playboy sold over seven million copies — and I got $5,000 for just one shot. I could afford to install a phone in my mum and dad’s house in Portsmouth.
I’d been working as a waitress at the Arundel Hotel along Southsea seafront when a friend suggested I go to London for an interview for a job as a Bunny Girl at the famous Playboy Club in Park Lane.

I became a trainee Bunny Girl on January 4, 1971. After two weeks (at £35 per week), we were ready to go to work. But after a couple of weeks I’d had enough.
I had trouble remembering the difference between a Zombie and a Singapore Sling and, above all, my feet were killing me from eight-hour shifts schlepping drinks, wearing stiletto heels!!
I was ready to throw in the tail.
But I stuck at it and soon encountered Victor Lownes, the chairman and managing director. He had just bought a new camera and decided it would be fun to try it out on the new trainee Bunnies.
He said I should test for Playmate. But back in Portsmouth, at our house in Kassassin Street, Eastney, nudity simply did not exist. So when I first posed for test shots completely naked it was not something that came naturally to me.
When Victor took the tests shots of me back to Chicago, they must have been well received. I was invited to fly out to Chicago to have more shots done.
I rushed home to Portsmouth to grab my passport. I was in a daze by the time the limo pulled up outside 1340 North State Parkway and the ornate steel and glass doors of the Playboy Mansion opened for me.
It took 11 days to shoot my centrefold, but Hugh Hefner was delighted and I went back to England, straight home to Portsmouth. Now for the tough part.
‘Oh, here is a Polaroid of my centrefold’, I said, casually, to my parents.
My mum, bless her, chose to ignore the fact that I was starkers and piped up ‘ooh, doesn’t your hair look nice!’ Dad, a man who always marched to his own drummer, declared ‘it’s similar to a Rubens’ and dashed off to the pub, the Eastney Tavern, to show his mates. Never mind the seven million men who would eventually see it – my dad’s approval was the only one that mattered to me.
Back working in London, I fell in love with Victor. Then in 1973 I was chosen as Playmate of the Year and toured the US giving interviews and making appearances.
I was photographed for the cover of Roxy Music album Stranded and the Wonder Bra advertisements, plus various famous swimwear campaigns.
In 1984, I married Victor and we now divide our time between London and New York. What could have been a perilous journey I embarked on when I took that train turned out to be exhilarating, liberating and lucky.


When Marilyn Cole, a British beauty, applied for a job as a Bunny at the PB Club in London, she was hired on the spot. Within a week she was recommended as a possible Playmate, and soon enough, she was 1973's Playmate of the Year. Not bad for a girl who once said she felt self-conscious in a bathing suit.
Marilyn's involvement with PB didn't stop there -- besides her stints as a Bunny and a Playmate, the career-oriented Marilyn handled public relations for the London Club. Today she says she has "come full circle from PR" and is helping a couple of New York publishers promote their books.
After posing for the magazine, Marilyn's romantic life took an interesting turn. She dated Hef, rocker Bryan Ferry and a British baron before settling down with PB exec Victor Lownes in 1984. Today the couple maintains homes in London, Aspen and New York.
She is as gorgeous as ever, as evidenced in the feature "Playmates Forever! part Two". "She was always a looker", Miss January's father said of his daughter in 1972. Mr. Cole, we couldn't have said it better ourselves.
